Women I admire....

Hello Fashion lovers!

I’d like to take the next couple of weeks to talk about women, in the Fashion Industry or otherwise, who I look up to and admire. People seem to have this notion that celebrities are people to gossip about; and while finding out that Jordan has once again gotten married can be riveting for about 5 seconds, I’d much rather learn about women who are much more inspirational and are better role models. One special lady I’d like to start with is the Queen of R&B Beyoncé Knowles.

Singer, Dancer, Actress, Mother, Wife and now Model; she seems to make the concept ‘Women can have it all’ a reality. Starting in her garage in Houston, Texas, and studying at a performing arts school, she started her amazing career with cousin Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett in the band Destinys Child. She’s had countless number one albums and singles through her solo career, as well as through Destinys Child. She’s been in many successful films including Dream Girls, The Pink Panther and Austin Powers Gold Member; and is now perfecting her career as a model fronting the newest H&M summer campaign. She’s married to Superstar rapper Jay-Z  (Whom she has collaborated with on many occasions-how cute!?) and  the mother of the adorable Blue Ivy- she is a superhero!

I’ve always admired her sense of style, even some of the shocking 90s outfits she wore in her Destiny’s Child days (hello orange fringing and blue leather!) Her incredible curves are all her own and make her who she is. I’ve taken a few pictures from the Vogue website- of some of my favourite looks of hers!

Over the years she has put on and lost weight, which isn’t very healthy, but has been necessary in some cases; for example she was probably at her skinniest for her role as Deena Jones in Mean Girls- as shown when she walked the premier red carpet in the Cobalt blue chiffon gown her mum Tina made. Then, the most recent and obvious example would be gaining weight because of her pregnancy; although, annoyingly, she lost the baby weight very quickly. The picture of her showing her baby bump for the first time at the MTV awards in a gorgeous Amber Lanvin gown was amazing; she glowed as she approached motherhood.
My favourite look of hers was when she starred in Austin Power Gold Member as Foxy Cleopatra. I was so envious of how good she looked in her 70’s jumpsuits and dresses; and the hair, well what can I say about the hair? It was awesome.

I’ll write again next week about another icon of mine.

Peace! <3
